Good restaurant POS software in Nepal has to do more than print a bill. It must handle VAT at 13%, the service charge, your PAN, Bikram Sambat dates and bill numbers that follow Nepal's fiscal year, and, for bigger restaurants, the Inland Revenue Department's e-billing rules. On top of that it should send orders to the kitchen and bar and keep working when the internet drops.
This guide lists what to check, then looks at some options in Nepal based on what each company says on its own website or in news reports in October 2026. It is not a complete list, and we have not added prices or ratings: ask each vendor directly.
01What restaurant POS software in Nepal must handle
- VAT 13%: the tax on your bill if you are VAT-registered.
- Service charge: as its own line on the bill, at the rate you charge (commonly 10%).
- Prices that include VAT and service charge: many restaurants show one menu price that already includes both. The software should work out the taxable amount, service charge and VAT from that price, so the guest pays exactly what the menu says.
- PAN on the bill, and the buyer's PAN when a business customer asks for it.
- Bikram Sambat (BS) dates on bills and reports, next to the English date if you like.
- Fiscal-year bill numbers: numbers that restart each fiscal year on 1 Shrawan, for example 2083/84-0142.
- IRD e-billing rules: restaurants above the IRD's turnover line must use IRD-approved billing software. See our guide to IRD approved billing software in Nepal.
- Local payments: Fonepay, eSewa and Khalti QR are what guests use most.
02What your kitchen and floor need
- KOT to the kitchen and BOT to the bar, on printers or screens. See what a KOT is and what a BOT is.
- Table management with waiter logins on phones.
- Offline billing for power cuts and weak internet outside the valley.
- Stock and recipes if you want to control wastage.
- Reports on your phone and an export for your accountant.

|---|---|---|
| Tigg (Tigg Restro) | Accounting and POS for restaurants and retail: table management, order processing, multiple stores, CBMS integration | Its site says "IRD Approved" |
| Himalaya ERP | ERP with a restaurant POS: table management and KOT | Its site says it is compliant with the IRD Electronic Billing Procedure 2074 with CBMS sync |

Sources: Tigg, Himalaya ERP, NRestro and the maBill launch report. What a vendor says about IRD is its own claim: before you buy, check the product and version on the IRD's list of approved software and with your tax office.
04Where RestroGrow fits
RestroGrow for Nepal is a restaurant POS with Nepal-style bills. Bills show the heading "Tax Invoice", VAT 13%, your PAN, the taxable amount and the service charge as its own line. You can switch on "Prices include tax" so the bill works VAT and service charge out of the menu price. Bill numbers restart each fiscal year (shown like 2083/84-0142) and the date prints in Bikram Sambat next to the English date. Prices are in NPR, and Nepali is one of the language options.
Around the bill, RestroGrow gives you KOTs to the kitchen and BOTs to the bar, a kitchen screen with timers, offline billing that syncs later, table QR ordering, your own ordering website, loyalty, and inventory linked to recipes. You can add Fonepay, eSewa or Khalti as payment methods with your QR, so the cashier records how each bill was paid.
Plainly: RestroGrow is not IRD approved. If your restaurant is above the IRD's e-billing turnover line, or your tax office requires IRD-approved software for you, RestroGrow cannot be your billing system for that. It suits restaurants that need a POS with KOT, BOT, QR ordering and growth tools and are free to choose their billing method.
05How to choose
- Check your IRD position first. Ask your tax office or accountant whether you must use IRD-approved software. If yes, shortlist only products on the IRD's list.
- Print a test bill and check VAT, service charge, PAN, BS date and bill number against what your accountant expects.
- Test KOT and BOT printing with your own printers in a real rush hour.
- Turn off the internet during the trial and keep billing.
- Ask for the full yearly cost in writing, including setup, devices and outlets.
FAQ
Which is the best restaurant POS software in Nepal?
It depends on your size and your IRD position. Restaurants that must use IRD-approved software should choose from products on the IRD list. Others can choose on kitchen flow, QR ordering, support and growth features.
Do restaurants in Nepal have to use IRD-approved billing software?
Restaurants above the turnover line set by the IRD must. Below it, a VAT-registered restaurant still issues a bill for every sale, through a numbered bill book or software allowed by its tax office. Check the current IRD notice for the exact amount.
Is RestroGrow IRD approved?
No. RestroGrow is not IRD approved. It is used for POS, KOT and BOT, QR ordering and online orders.
Can a POS show the date in Bikram Sambat?
Yes, software built for Nepal prints the BS date on bills and reports. Check that it also restarts bill numbers on 1 Shrawan.
Summary
Choose restaurant POS software in Nepal in two steps. First, find out if the IRD requires approved software for you; if it does, pick from the IRD list. Then check VAT 13%, service charge, PAN, BS dates, fiscal-year bill numbers, KOT and BOT, offline billing and local QR payments in a real trial.
