Zomato Commission in 2026: Every Fee Restaurants Pay, Explained

Zomato's commission for restaurants usually falls between about 8% and 28%, plus GST and other charges. Here is every fee, a worked ₹500 example, and how to cut what you pay.

Zomato commission rates for restaurants usually fall between about 8% and 28% of the order value, depending on your contract. On top of that you pay 18% GST on the commission, payment-related charges, and whatever ads and discounts you choose to run. All-in, many restaurants find 25% to 35% of each order goes to the platform.

Rates are set per restaurant, and Zomato has been changing its fee model through 2025 and 2026. Treat the numbers here as a guide and check your own agreement and weekly payout statement.

01What decides Zomato commission rates

  • Who delivers: commission is higher when Zomato's delivery partners deliver than when you deliver yourself.
  • Your volume and brand: large chains generally negotiate lower rates than small restaurants.
  • Exclusivity: listing only on Zomato may get a lower rate.
  • City and location: rates are negotiated outlet by outlet.

In July 2026, the Bruhat Bengaluru Hotels Association said restaurants were paying commissions of 8% to 28% to the delivery apps, and some members threatened to delist. That range is a fair picture of what restaurants report.

02All the charges, one by one

Commission: a percentage of the order value, as agreed in your contract.

GST on commission: 18% on the commission and service fees Zomato bills you.

Payment and collection charges: a small percentage for collecting online payments, depending on your contract.

Long-distance and small-order fees: reports in 2025 said that for orders under ₹150 delivered beyond 6 km, Zomato would collect ₹40 per order from the restaurant, with total charges capped at 30% of the order value. Check if this applies to you.

Ads and discounts: optional, but often the biggest hidden cost. Sponsored listings and "50% off" campaigns you fund come out of your payout.

GST on the food itself: for food ordered through the app, Zomato collects and pays the 5% GST on food to the government on your behalf. You don't charge GST again on those orders.

03Worked example: a ₹500 order

ItemAmount
Food value₹500
Commission at 22%– ₹110
18% GST on commission– ₹19.80
Payment charges (about 2%)– ₹10
Discount you fund (₹50 off)– ₹50
Reaches your bankabout ₹310

Change the percentages to match your contract. The formula is: payout = order value – commission – (commission × 18%) – payment charges – discounts and ads you fund.

04Zomato vs Swiggy commission

Both platforms work the same way: a negotiated commission (commonly reported around 18–25% on each), 18% GST on it, and extra per-order charges that change from time to time. Neither is clearly cheaper for everyone. Compare the actual offers you receive. See our guide to Swiggy's joining charges and fees.

05Six ways to pay less commission

  1. Read your payout statement every week. Check commission, ads and penalties line by line.
  2. Negotiate after 3–6 months. Good ratings and steady orders are your bargaining power.
  3. Price your app menu separately. Keep delivery prices 10–20% above dine-in to cover fees.
  4. Be careful with discounts. A 50%-off campaign on a 25% commission can leave you with almost nothing.
  5. Deliver yourself where it makes sense. Self-delivery usually means a lower commission.
  6. Bring repeat customers to direct ordering. Your regulars can order on your own website or WhatsApp with zero commission. RestroGrow gives you both, plus loyalty points that reward ordering direct.
